First, let me to state I'm certainly not an engineer nor a physics scientist, so the following post interpretation will be very "layman".
Steve Englishbey came out for a weekend of clinical instruction to my 16U and the program's 18U teams. I had contacted Steve based primarily on the evaluations that the posts on this board provided. Ssarge, Mark, Teacherman and others who know Steve provided a rather impressive opinion of Steve's ability to teach "it".
"IT" is the essence of how to get to a successful swing with power and conviction. I am pretty much like many coaches who think we have a fair grasp of helping young ladies improve their game. We have purchased a library of videos and brought in clinicians to help with this education. What I witnessed this past weekend is the LEO of hitting....in others words he's (Steve) the one! Steve is the first to say that he attributes much of the credit to Paul Nyman and his studies/comparisons.
It is humbling to see your kids go through dry swings and have little true idea on how to really help prior to Steve's clinic. After a couple days experiencing Steve, watching to the next two students start their session with their normal swing, it made my take notice that I really had little understanding myself...how they could (students) be swinging like that! I was able to see major flaws that I had not identified before.
I look forward to continuing the trek through this winter in Chicago and am very confidant that we will witness hitters much more successful come Spring. I’ll continue to test myself on www.hitting-mechanics.org when a clip is posted and answer to myself before Paul, Steve and the others provide their take.
Bottom line is that the value of having Steve come to Chicago was WELL worth it. I’ll post before and after clips when they begin HS games this Spring!
Having seen Tim's daughter pitch and hit, I can tell you that his approach worked, and worked well.
I can also validate the idea that starting immediately with Englishbey will lead to better results than starting with another instructor, then moving to Englishbey.
There is some value in other approaches. Some. Improvement will probably occur.
The problem is, to take it to the next level, I believe you will need to unlearn / relearn some things. Like momentum transfer into rotation, which is a biggy. And you will have no idea what an upperbody load sequence should look like, because other instructors leaves you to figure it out for yourself.
Which can be done, via trial-and-error. It can be done - still using some trial-and-error, but with guidance - much quicker if you let Steve show you how to do it.
Wow, just got Steve's DVD set yesterday and have already spent at least 4 hours reviewing. The material is incredible. We have benefited greatly from working with Steve over the last year, including a couple of personal visits across state lines as well as many phone conversations.
After having Englishbey for a clinic was like having laser eye surgery...I could "see" things a whole lot better afterwards. It's this start that gave us the commonalities we stress: 1). Box 2). Tilt 3).Load 4). Rotate 5). Follow through
By seeing, I mean that there were many flaws in our players, that while very prevalent I did not catch them. Your point is well taken regarding specific notations on individual batters. As coaches, once we have some idea on the how to "get there" you can review video and have select presciptions to alleviate flaws you see.
I take video clips, review with the player and then hand them their personal guideline to overcome poor tendancies they may have. For example, the may set the box well, or set the spine well, but flare open the front knee too early causing disconnection problems.
It's a very good idea indeed to review the video and provide them the tools when they work on their own. It provided you with a chart also of their progress and if they are really working toward improving the swing.

I have done this at various national levels for years.
Currently coaching the 16U MDS RailCats.
We are out of the Northwest Indiana/Chicago area.
I have Steve's tapes and participated as a lurker at one of his clinics.
Maybe someday I can get him in person to work with our team.
I have devoted countless hours of research and effort towards making myself a better coach.
Over the past 1-2 years I have spent many hours digesting Steve's training material.
I am a big believer that a coach's passion and expectations of an individual directly affect
the level of a player's achievments.
Our team played one tournament this fall in Illinois.
Our team hit 6 homeruns over the center field fence in 2 games.
4 of them were solo shots in one game. Back to Back to Back to Back
We have been told it is an NSA and ASA record for the books.
I stumbled on to Steve and his material shortly after I stumbled on to SetPro.
I am an information and technology type of person.
I was a very short but skilled baseball player when I was young 6-14.
But my body never grew to match my skill or desire, eventually, I became a father and coach.
Steve's insight and material lead you down a path of common sense.
His drills and devices create positive results.
My eyes now more readily see the ineffiencies of a swing.
Because of Steve's tapes and devices, I can now attack those ineffiencies with variable processes that lead to a natural athletic correction and not a forced unathletic correction.
His web site with video display is absolutely the best immediate training facility I have found.
As needed, I can review a specific video that zeros in on the function in question.
Its a video - victionary for hitting.
I am a teacher and coach.
I love passing on this knowledge and wisdom to my players and seeing them succeed!
Thank You Steve for all of your presentations and material and for your relentless effort to help kids of all ages and gender.
